Had a great experience with Blue Haven. Our designer, Gary, was the BEST! Kim, behind the scenes was AMAZING. And Jeff brought everything together to finish the job. The pool is beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They really do care about their customers. I hope the service department is as reliable as the rest of the team has been so far.

FAQs Answered by Blue Haven Pools on the Gulf
There are four main types of inground pools: Gunite, Fiberglass and Vinyl Liner pools. Each type offers specific features and benefits depending on your budget, geography, and design preferences.
- Gunite Pools: a durable and long-lasting type of pool. Gunite is a mixture of cement, sand, and water that can withstand many weather conditions. A gunite pool can be customized into different shapes and sizes as well having a smooth surface finish.
- Fiberglass Pools: type of pool that is pre-manufactured and installed as a single piece in someone’s home. Fiberglass pools are quicker to install, but are less easy to alter or update after installation.
- Vinyl Liner Pools: a pool with a steel or polymer frame that holds a vinyl liner. Vinyl liners can tear or be damaged over time (typically every 7-10 years) and require more maintenance than fiberglass pools.
Gunite pools are popular in Florida and Alabama, because of their durability, versatility, and return on investment. Gunite pools are the most durable of inground pool types and often the best warranties.
The time it takes to build an inground swimming pool depends on the type of inground pool, weather, project complexity, and local permitting and HOA requirements. Typically, it can take 6-12 weeks to build an inground pool for your home, but the entire build process may take longer based on site prep and permitting.
The overall cost of building an inground pool for your home is driven by factors such as: size and design of the pool, type of inground pool being built (gunite, fiberglass, or vinyl), your location, and additional features such as lighting and water features. Permitting, labor, and landscaping around your pool will also impact the overall cost of an inground pool.
Ongoing maintenance for an inground pool will require cleaning, checking and balancing the water chemistry, and running the pump and filtration system. It’s also recommended to monitor your inground pool’s water levels and checking your pool equipment to make sure it is working properly.
There are many features you can add to your pool to make it become the perfect backyard retreat. Some of the most popular features to add are:
- Infinity Edge
- Spa
- Waterfalls
- LED Lighting
- Fire Features
- Fountains
- Water Jets
- Tanning Ledge
While it is recommended to incorporate features like these into your pool design before building, you can also add features to an existing pool as well to freshen up the look of your pool or for a renovation. A pool designer can help you with selecting the right features for your inground pool.
For homeowners in Florida and Alabama, you can build your pool anytime during the year due to our consistently warm weather. If you’re thinking about building a pool for your home, you will want to consider your current plans and a pool designer can help you select the best time of year to begin building your dream pool.
To choose the best location to place a pool in your yard, we recommend you consider the following:
Maximum Sun Exposure: choosing a spot in your yard to get the most sun exposure is the most important factor to consider when deciding on where to place your new pool. You want to choose a location that gets direct sunlight throughout the day to naturally heat the water.
Wind Protection: you want to choose a spot sheltered from the wind, so you can best enjoy the area and be comfortable sitting and relaxing out by your pool.
Privacy: before selecting the location for your pool, you need to consider the amount of privacy you will have from your neighbors. You may also consider if a privacy fence is necessary.
Accessibility: you want to choose a place in your yard that will be easy to access your pool from your house or other parts of your property.
Location of Trees: you will want your inground pool to be built a suitable distance away from any trees in your backyard. This is done for safety as well as ensuring that trees, bushes, or other items do not fall into your pool.
Level Surface: it’s best for construction and for your daily enjoyment to build your pool on as level of a surface as possible in your yard.
Safety Consideration (Drainage, Utility Lines and Equipment): safety should always come first as a pool owner and when selecting the location for your new pool. You need to consider proper drainage, digging around utility lines and other equipment in your yard.
Local Regulations and Codes: you need to consult your area’s local building codes, zoning laws as well as your Homeowner Association (HOA)’s restrictions on your pool placement as well as setbacks from your property line.
Blue Haven provides direct financing options to help you build your dream pool. We have a team of in-house finance specialists who connect homeowners with pool financing options that are the best fit for your credit profile and budget.
The first thing you should do is check with your local municipality to see what zoning regulations or restrictions apply when building a pool for your home. You need to be aware about zoning laws regarding construction, setbacks from your property line, and other regulations.
When speaking with a pool designer, you need to ask them about the permitting process and zoning regulations for your local jurisdiction and how this may impact the construction process for your new pool.
